[It's after the lights come on, and Seraphim's left Nathan a package wrapped up in paper with a note. Inside is a batch of Reese's Peanut Butter Brownies]
[ How can he sleep when you've given him such delicious treats to eat? Well okay, there's an answer to that, he's exhausted. But he makes a note to thank her for them and sets them aside to share with his Comms team when he wakes up. They deserve it. ]
[ it's a few hours after the jump, when the medbay is empty and all the passengers have gone back to their business, that the message is sent -- nothing long, no threats yet, but really. the fact that he's not too happy with nathan petrelli kind of goes without saying. it's a warning in itself, those two small words. ]
[ Nathan has had a hell of a time of this whole thing, and here he is in his room jumping at shadows when the message comes in, just two words from a comm he doesn't recognise; two words that could be from anyone, but most certainly are only from one man, and fill him with dread. (And maybe it's his mind making them up, maybe they're not real either, but what if they are?)
So he responds, but only to test the water, to see if he's right. ]
So, if I take the night shift, will you go to sleep? Try and tell me you and Tosh haven't been overworking yourself this month and I'll rig your communicator to play an 8-Bit version of the Super Mario Bros theme song every ten minutes for a month.
Take her with you when you go. I'll be there in an hour and the place better be empty.
P.S. Thoughts on adding an extra hand? PSA style, of course. I hear it's all the rage these days.
It's all an illusion. A conspiracy. We're prisoners of war and there's no escape. We're dead, and this is our last little glimpse of life before the end. Oh--we're hallucinating, even better.
[It's a young man's voice, low and smooth; Nathan has heard it before.]
Mr. Petrelli, this is Ryuuzaki -- I assisted with Communications during the downtime a few weeks back. I've been meaning to speak to you about continuing with that work.
[OOC: I've been sick, and my original intention was to reply a little late to Nathan's post a few weeks ago. But then Tosh's post went up, with material in it indicating that this hadn't been taken care of (because it hadn't!), and I didn't want to cause a continuity issue for anyone, and I've been hiatused since then. So I assume that this can take place any time between Tosh's post going up and today: whatever wouldn't throw off anyone else! Sorry about that.]
You were a great asset to us back then, and I for one would be appreciative of the continued help. Not to mention you've already gone through basic clearance.
You can start any time, just make sure you register properly. You'll get a security upgrade to your nanotech.
[ now that he's out of the medbay for his wound-age.... ]
So, I uh-- I've been meaning to apologize for leaving comm's one man down. Kind of got roped into going through the hedge maze with- [ does he call casey a friend? a boss? a WHAT? ] - with a guy I know from home that can get a little trigger happy.
The system usually sends us a report after two weeks if a communicator doesn't come back online. I'm assuming you need it sooner than that? Dare I ask what kind of incident?
[ She might have made her way there a touch quicker than usual this time, slipping into the comm's department just as someone else slips out, easing her way around the door and then making sure it shuts behind her. ]
Nathan?
[ She sounds worried, perhaps a touch more than anyone else might be -- she cares. If only because this should be interesting. ]
[ God he's relieved to see her. Nathan has his gun on the desk, and he's had all the chairs and tables carried up from the ground floor in case they need to barricade the door. They can get in through the locks, he's sure of it, and when they come for his computers he intends to make a fight of it.
It's more likely he's going to have Tyke to fight first. That's what the gun is for, and right now he's mustering up the courage to talk to his team and offer them a fair choice. ]
I'm down here.
[ Making the place defensible in case the barricade fails. If they claim the top walkway, he wants to make sure they can't rain down fire from above. ]
It was Ward who saved us-- me and Des, when we came back. Des doesn't remember, but I blackmailed him. I made him promise to meet with me about-- order, and morale, and...
[ she stops, long enough it's nearly a full minute before she starts again. ]
I killed one of them. He shot at me, I don't feel bad about that but-- one of them was a little girl, Nathan. And he just-- [ she chokes up, there. jeremy could be that girl, places traded. ] I wish it had been Ward I killed, and it scares me that I mean that.
