Chuck Bartowski. [ It's kind of really nice not to have to say Charles. ] I'd say at your service, but i'm not really at your service. But i'd like to be. Maybe. At least I think i'd like to be, pretty sure it's about the most useful thing I can do around these parts.
I uh, I graduated from Stanford? In Engineering, with a speciality in computer science. Top of my class, had a scholarship to go. [ Don't mind him sounding all wistful. ] Could say that I had a few other specialities along the way when it came to my friends, but-- I've been working for a corporate store for awhile. Fixing computers, electronics, putting together old stock to stick it back on the shelves.
Not really the kind of stuff I like to do, but it pays the bills, y'know? Kind of prefer to take that part off my resume.
Well it's a start. What kind of stuff do you like to do? The people in Comms are usually working there because it's the only place they fit in, the only thing they could ever imagine doing.
What do I like to do? [ But you didn't ask that. ] I uh-- about all I used to do in college was hack into anything I could. But I like computers, think I speak their language better than I speak English sometimes.
I like getting to help people too, though, y'know? Maybe not breaking their computers, but finding ways to make it all easier. I mean I work for a place where people think turning on their monitor's enough of a challenge. Always gonna be new software, new ways to... I don't know, organize information. Make it easier and faster and better so that people can do more.
[ Should he talk more? Less? He doesn't really know at this point. ] Fixed security systems, gotten into encrypted data that was needed for the-- for my managers, rerouted GPS systems. I kind of like to do all of it.
[ Nathan wasn't a fool. He noticed the slip, but he was beginning to get used to the fact that nobody here was quite what they seemed. That working for the government or... Well, whatever the hell else there was going on in their home worlds that made them so far different from the normal world that Nathan had once thought he grew up in.
The world just wasn't normal. Not for anyone. And that was the life lesson he'd picked up as he went along. ]
It's fine. You don't need to give me a life description, or a recommendation from your previous employers. You'll be able to learn on the job, low security clearance to begin with, then build your way up.
[ Chuck didn't actually think he was all that slick, but he was also hoping for the best when it came to being figured out. Because at the end of the day, space was the last place he wanted to have to keep the secret that he hadn't wanted to keep in the first place. ]

Especially if it involves computer parts.

[ Inclining his head. ]
What sort of experience do you have?

How are you with working with a team?
video!
I've got teams. I'm good with teams.

[ Nathan grins, since Chuck looked so helpless, and patted the table. ]
I'll expect you first thing tomorrow.

I'll be there. Early, even.
