[ Nathan pauses for a moment, just taking all of that in, trying to think of someone he could apply more or less the same to. The only person he can really come up with is himself. A personality that takes some getting used to. His abs sadly let him down. ]

[ He was a little late, something he couldn't help because the way he'd thought to go turned out to be a dead end. Getting turned around in the ship's corridors was too easy. Eventually, though, he found his way down, emerging through the doorway with his jacket slung over his shoulder. ]

Get lost? [ jenna's plate of cupcakes is rapidly dwindling in size, but it's still pretty damn impressive. it was a little more of a platter of cupcakes, but so far everyone's been willing to eat them, locker-given or no. ] Because you missed out on your threesome-- Jaye's already come and gone.

Damn. You know what this ship is like. Soon as you actually wanna get somewhere. [ He shrugged a shoulder, approaching her at the counter and sliding into an empty seat. ] There space coffee with those cupcakes? Want me to make some?

[ With a smile, Nathan began doing just that, turning around to start sorting through the cupboards, which weren't kept exactly the same way as the ones on 006. He found the coffee eventually, and set things off boiling.

One of the few things he could actually make, thanks to his having no choice. The same coffee he fed to poor unsuspecting people in the Jump bay when they woke up. He spoke over his shoulder. ]

[ there's something achingly normal about talking about the minutia of life while someone makes coffee, and jenna relaxes a little into her chair without even really intending to. ]

[ And to show just how non-judgemental he is, Nathan is still concentrating on the pot as he asks, and then unruffled moves over to look for cups. ]

Are you kidding? I'll take any excuse to talk about the two of them.

Jeremy's sixteen and oh my god, thankfully exiting his surly phase. Elena's seventeen-- eighteen soon, though. [ she missed that birthday; at home and here, but she shoves that thought down. ] And she's probably more mature than I'll ever be, already-- she's like her mom.

[ He tilts his head slightly, watching her over his shoulder and pouring the coffee out, joining her at the table a moment later with the sugar. ]

Their parents?

My older sister and her husband. [ she pours an obscene amount of sugar in her own coffee and takes a long sip before answering the real question. ]

Car accident, about a year ago. [ another sip, and then jenna sets the cup down, wrapping her hands tight around it. ] That was a really really rough summer.

Losing a parent is hard enough; losing both is harder. [ a pause, and he looks at her deliberately. ] And losing a sibling when you gotta be the one to stay tough.

Oh, believe me I know. [ it wasn't that far a space between mom and dad and miranda and greyson; jenna went from one of the babies of a big family to the only adult, what felt like overnight. ] Yeah, well. Tough is a stretch, but I paid the bills and nobody starved or drowned in dirt so I call it a win.

[ All he can think of is Peter, and what a pain in the ass he was at that age. Nathan had been away at the time, but that hadn't stopped his brother's tumultuous teenage years causing problems even when he was on the other side of the world. ]

How is it? Not as good as the real thing, I know.

Well-- I haven't had any of Ianto's supposedly magic coffee yet, but I think...

[ she takes another sip, and shakes her head sadly. ]

I hate to tell you this, but you're going to have to make me a lot more coffee from now on.
