It wouldn't surprise me if he was interested on keeping the spotlight on him, but i've hardly been here long enough to judge. [ Except she's done more than enough judging already, and while Julian thinks Neal 'knows the most', Lauren has yet to truly believe it. ]
I'm merely looking to find out more about the ship. Preferably from someone who actually knows what they're doing.
[ Nathan pauses there. He almost feels...vindicated, over that. He feels he knows the most on board, that he's on top of everything to a miopic level. About time someone came to him for information. ]
There's an awful lot. You thinking about a helpline arrangement, or you wanna chat about it?
I'd say it deserves more than just a 'chat.' Not that there's anything wrong with informalities, but really, there's quite a lot to cover and everyone else apparently prefers brevity over actual explanations.
[ People need a lesson or two on how to give a valid briefing, but she sounds just a touch sad -- damsel in distress syndrome. She's a little bit lost with nowhere to go. ]
Then come by. I'll show you around our systems--actually no, let's start off somewhere else. You been by the holodecks yet? I'll show you if you haven't.
The system usually sends us a report after two weeks if a communicator doesn't come back online. I'm assuming you need it sooner than that? Dare I ask what kind of incident?
I'll get someone on it right away, but I can't promise anything. It means raking through the data manually. Jesus Christ. Airlocked, huh? I got an idea for a killer, if you're looking for people to question.
Whatever you can do. This isn't the only route we're trying.
Hoping there's an actual link instead of a random killing. Figure out the victim + work from that side. But if you've got a name you want us to look into we keep a system for that.
We'll get on it. I assume you want discretion, you'll have it with us. And if you need me to look into someone specific's communications, let me know. I still have a couple of decent hackers left.
Matthew Keller. He was discussing airlocking people before and after his trip into the ship, and I wouldn't put anything past the people who come back from out there. They're dangerous.
Thanks. I'll keep that in mind if we get any leads.
Keller was a shitstirrer before. He didn't want to airlock anyone, just wanted everyone getting freaked out about the idea. + if being in the ship's given him any ideas, betting it's nastier than airlocks. But we've already got him flagged.
Alright, so long as you've got your eye on him. Guy's offhand behaviour pisses me off, but it doesn't mean he's our killer. I'll get back to you when I have something.
[ She might have made her way there a touch quicker than usual this time, slipping into the comm's department just as someone else slips out, easing her way around the door and then making sure it shuts behind her. ]
Nathan?
[ She sounds worried, perhaps a touch more than anyone else might be -- she cares. If only because this should be interesting. ]
[ God he's relieved to see her. Nathan has his gun on the desk, and he's had all the chairs and tables carried up from the ground floor in case they need to barricade the door. They can get in through the locks, he's sure of it, and when they come for his computers he intends to make a fight of it.
It's more likely he's going to have Tyke to fight first. That's what the gun is for, and right now he's mustering up the courage to talk to his team and offer them a fair choice. ]
I'm down here.
[ Making the place defensible in case the barricade fails. If they claim the top walkway, he wants to make sure they can't rain down fire from above. ]
[ She's walking slowly because she's not entirely sure what he's doing, and also because she doesn't want to bump into anything he's so intently put together to keep people out. It's not as if she even truly knows what she's here for, apart from another opportunity to garner his attention, and to gain more of his trust. She has no reason not to stay, though, no excuse to head directly back out.
Moving closer, she glances down, her hands sliding out of her pocket as she waits. ]
Did you want to talk? Or would you prefer a hand? No one's headed in this direction for the moment, I can assure you of that.
You're very assuring. [ Nathan offered her a watery smile, but the moment he lays eyes on her the smile becomes something a little more heartfelt, Nathan reminded of only a few days ago when everything was going just fine.
So when she comes down to him he steps over, still behind his barricade, and greets her with a thorough kiss, letting a little of his anxiety out through it. The hand not holding a sheet of metal curls against hew jaw.
When he feels a little more soothed, it's with a slow exhale that he releases her, dropping his eyes down toward his work. ]
I have no idea what we're up against. I could be sentencing these people to a long siege.
Yes, well.. [ She lets her words die off before she can fully form them because Nathan's already moving in closer and she's far more interested in fanning these particular flames before they can die out. Finishing sentences is hardly important when Nathan is still being reeled in, cautiously attached.
It's a kiss she can sigh against, her hand curling just at Nathan's elbow. In that instant she knows that she's meant to be comforting, pressing just a little more gently until he's the one that pulls back, and Lauren's left giving him a careful look.
She's here to be the intelligent backbone he needs, to tell him what's necessary and that-- ] You're only one man, Nathan. You haven't sentenced these people to anything, and they already know you're doing everything in your power.
[ He's relieved that she understands, because she's support, she's relief. She knows what he's going through, and then she's right there for him, saying what he wants to hear; he doesn't resent it one bit. ]
My people do, anyway.
[ He cares about them like they're his own family, but that hasn't been working out so well lately. He should have known. The Petrelli family had never been anything worth modelling others on. ]
It's only a matter of time until the details come out.
